Confidence Crash Course: How To Become Confident & Increase Your Self-Esteem

You can achieve anything in your life if you believe in your own capabilities. Confidence is related to your outer appearance as much as your inner mental strength. You are what you think! So that is why here on Iconique Psychology we’re hacking confidence! Let’s look at how you can become more confident in 3 simple steps:

 

1. Confident Body Language 
Ever heard of fake it until you make it? It’s not just a catch phrase. Your mind influences you body and at the same time, your body language influences how you feel. So until you feel a 100 percent comfortable and confident with a certain situation – fake it. You know what a confident person looks like? When walking into a room, they own that room. They move with purpose. Wondering around unsure about where you should go is not going seem very confident. 

 

Confident people are also very responsive to others. Imagine you’re meeting someone and you shake hands. A handshake can tell you a lot about a person’s confidence. Have you ever shaken hands with someone who’s hand felt like a dead fish? Not a great first impression, was it? The best thing is to shake hands firmly. Not to break all bones of the person you’re meeting but rather respond to his or her style.

 

Also consider how much space you a confident person takes up. They are not going to make themselves smaller by slouching. Think superman power poses. Chin up, shoulders wise, feet firmly on the ground. When standing up, try to make yourself as tall as possible. If you’re sitting down make use of the space given to you.

 

2. Empowering Environment
The people you surround yourself with have a major influence on your self-esteem and confidence levels. If from childhoods until your adult years you were told you’re not good enough and everything you do is wrong, chances are this “not good enough” song will be stuck in your head played on repeat like Rebecca Black’s Friday. Sorry for that metaphor, but you see what I mean…  

 

The great thing about life is that we can reinvent ourselves at any point. We can choose to move, change jobs, hobbies or even partners. You can choose what people you surround yourself with and who you listen to. So here’s a life hack that will change your life, success guaranteed. Choose to surround yourself with people who value and support you. The people who see the greatness in you even on days where you don’t see it in yourself. With a crew like that by your side, you will become invincible.


3. Empowering Self-talk
Words can bring you down or lift you up. How you let others talk to you and how you talk to yourself influences your self-image. For example, when you make a mistake, do you call yourself stupid? Or do you say to yourself that you might have done a stupid thing, which made you learn something new for next time? The first option is labeling you, attacking your identity as a smart & capable person and tearing down your self-esteem. The second option is allowing you to be a human being, who learns and grows. So which option sounds better to you?

Another important thing is the ability to compliment yourself. Saying to yourself “I am amazing” is not a sin. It is a necessity in revealing your own potential. Saying to yourself you’re beautiful and intelligent does not take away the intelligence and beauty from anyone else. Learning to say these words to yourself will also make you capable of saying them to others. Wouldn’t that be a dream world? A world, where people support and compliment each other. A world, where we bring out the best in each other. Believe in yourself so that you can start believing in others.
